The Sittig Foundation is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 2021. It is a family driven nonprofit, aspiring to empower those who wish to serve others through public and human service. With this vision in mind, our mission is to provide financial support through scholarships to those pursing a career in public and human services. Our father and grandfather, the late Darwin Sittig, was the inspiration for this scholarship. He instilled a sense of service through his actions.
Darwin exemplified service to others in his daily life, throughout his life. Darwin was a founding member of the Thompson, Iowa, Rescue Unit, volunteered as an EMT, served with Chickasaw Ambulance Service as a paramedic, served on the city councils and as mayor for the communities of Holstein, Iowa, Thompson, Iowa and New Hampton, Iowa. Darwin also served on the Land of Lakes Board of Directors where he traveled to the Czech Republic and Slovakia to provide training on Farm Cooperative Systems and farming. Everywhere Darwin went, he served his community. He truly symbolized what it meant to serve others before self.
Because of Darwin's example, the next generations of the Sittig family have added to, and continue to add to, this legacy of public and human service. The family is made up of law enforcement professionals, multiple teachers, a military serviceman, a mental health counselor, a first responder, coaches, and more. With all of this in mind, Zane Sittg, Darwin's third grandson and a teacher and coach, decided to honor his family's legacy with the creation of the Sittig Foundation. His family is happy to assist him in working on this important endeavor.
